Mile 12: Regarding Almaty.

Today marks the one-year anniversary of my arrival in Kyrgyzstan. It’s been an incredible year, filled with amazing experiences and beautiful memories. I should be celebrating. But I instead I am despondently livid.

As many of you know, I’ve been training for the Almaty Marathon since about December, and I’ve been looking forward to it for well over a year now. You’re probably wondering why I haven’t posted photos yet.

At the 2013 Boston Marathon, I was kept from crossing the finish line by the senseless act of two terrorists. This year, instead of finishing the 2016 Almaty Marathon, I was kept from even starting the race because of a series of other people’s preventable errors.

I’m so incredibly upset that I know that I am unable to write about this coherently or respectfully. So rather than the longest post of the past year, this will be the shortest.

Wish me luck at a make-up race in Issyk-Kul next month.
